Psychodynamics is a process group that provides an opportunity for residents to talk to each other about his or her anxieties, depressive concerns, and fears; expanding on issues he or she is working on in therapy or are active in the milieu. In the psychodynamic group, residents are able to say whatever is on their minds-about themselves, the community, etc.-or to be a listener if he or she so chooses. It is a group to share feelings, give feedback and help each other with shared issues. The feedback of other residents, as they cope with what are often with universal issues, proves to be a very valuable part of a resident’s stay at the Retreat. One is not judged or criticized, and often issues are deepened that are then worked on further in individual sessions.
