Individual Addictions Counseling

A specialized addictions counselor meets with each resident struggling with addiction once weekly. These sessions are used to assess the nature of the resident’s relationship to alcohol and/or other drugs. Additionally, these meetings are used to educate and motivate the resident along the path to recovery from problems associated with use of those substances. These meetings are highly individualized, and take whatever form is required for a particular resident whether it be more therapeutic, educational, motivational, or working though a resident’s feelings about their substance use and meeting them where they are at on the continuum of recovery so that they can get the most out of the overall treatment program. The addictions counselor works in concert with a resident’s primary therapist and for dual-diagnosis patients is a critical ongoing part of the treatment team.
