At the Retreat, we see and treat substance abuse as part of the whole picture of the individual resident, who may be suffering from other mental illnesses simultaneously.
Addiction Treatment Group
For an hour each week patients struggling with addiction and those who have been concerned about their use of psychoactive substances meet to discuss the nature and level of their involvement and how to address their specific problems with our lead substance abuse counselor. The addiction treatment group encourages free and open discussion along with peer support and feedback. The specific topics for this group are determined by the needs of the current residents, but often include issues related to denial, guilt, self-diagnosis, family issues, reactions to the diagnosis and proposed treatment plan, and feelings surrounding involvement in 12-step recovery groups.
