The Retreat is a premiere, self funded psychiatric setting operated by the nationally renowned Sheppard Pratt Health System, located in the suburbs of Baltimore, MD.
Psychiatrists
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who have specialized training in treating individuals with mental and emotional disorders. They assess, diagnose, prescribe medications, and conduct psychotherapy with their patients. Psychiatrists head up multidisciplinary treatment teams, which consist of many different mental health professionals and that provide comprehensive health and wellness solutions to patients. On the Retreat at Sheppard Pratt, our psychiatrists are the primary mental health care providers. They are intimately involved in patient care. Our Retreat-based psychiatrists are hand-picked and each brings his or her unique talents and training to the work with each patient. Every patient is assigned a personal psychiatrist who sees the patient in individual psychotherapy and prescribes the proper medications. The psychiatrist coordinates the treatment team. In addition, many Retreat groups are co-led by psychiatrists (for example, Healing the Self, Psychodynamics, and Mindfulness groups). Finally, the psychiatrist takes the time to interface with the family (in conjunction with the family therapists) and the outside therapist for continuity of care.
